On Wednesday, 4 May 2016 at 9.30 a.m. in the JU Collegium Novum assembly hall, a conference entitled The Double Entendre of Nuremberg: Nuremberg of Hate and Nuremberg of Justice was organised. It marked the 80th anniversary of the introduction of the Nuremberg Laws and the 70th anniversary of the start of the Nuremberg Trials.

A Different View: Botanical Garden – a place of experiments

On 10 April, the JU Botanical Garden opened its gates for a new season. The garden, established in 1783, is the oldest of its kind in Poland. It was erected as part of the Hugo Kołłątaj's reform, which in the years 1777–1786 restructured the university and introduced into it the concepts of Enlightenment. The garden is widely recognised for its rich plant collection – and rightly so; however, it is unique in more than one way.

On 20 April 2016 the Max Planck Laboratory was opened at the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology (MCB) at the Jagiellonian University's Third Campus. The new JU research unit was opened in collaboration with the Max Planck Society (Max Planck Geselschaft – MPG).
