FEBS Excellence Award for a JU research team leader

Dr Guillem Ylla, head of the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Genome Biology at the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology has won the FEBS Excellence Award – a prestigious prize awarded by the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), aimed to support research group leaders starting their research careers and carrying out research projects in the field of life sciences at the molecular level.

Nagroda Gospodarcza Prezydenta RP dla zespołu BioMiStem

Zespół BioMiStem, skupiający pod kierunkiem prof. dr hab. Ewy Zuby-Surmy naukowców z Wydziału Biochemii, Biofizyki i Biotechnologii Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego oraz badaczy i klinicystów z firmy Galen-Ortopedia sp. z o.o. w Bieruniu, został laureatem XXI edycji Nagrody Gospodarczej Prezydenta RP w kategorii "Badania+Rozwój". Prestiżową nagrodę otrzymał za opracowanie leku komórkowego dla zastosowań w ortopedii.

JU Rector meets with Turkish ambassador

Funding for new therapies for inflammatory diseases

Dr Anna Więckowska, Prof. UJ from the Jagiellonian University Medical College and Prof. Izidor Sosič from the University of Ljubljana have won the OPUS 24+LAP/Weave call. In their project, they plan to obtain the first PROTAC-type compounds that degrade TAK1 and IKKβ kinases with anti-inflammatory properties. To carry out the research, the Polish team will receive funding of over 2 million zlotys from the National Science Centre (NCN).

University Hospital among Siemens Healthineers reference centres

The new University Hospital of the Jagiellonian University is the largest medical complex in Poland and one of the most innovative ones in Europe. Because of the application of state-of-the-art medical technology in diagnostics and treatment, the hospital has gained the status of a Siemens Healthineers reference centre, which allows Polish physicians, managers and technicians to undergo training at this institution and exchange knowledge and experience with its staff.
