German delegation meets with JU Rector-Elect

On 29 May, the Jagiellonian University was visited by a delegation from the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment of the German Bundestag led by its President Prof. Stephan Seiter. The delegation also included Dr Ingeborg Gräßle, Maja Wallstein and Andreas Meyer. Representatives of the German government met in the Senate Room of the JU Collegium Novum with the JU Rector-Elect Prof. Piotr Jedynak. The meeting was also attended by the Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kraków Dagmar Hillebrand.

Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology celebrates its 10th anniversary

On 13 May 2014 the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology (MCB) was opened at the JU Campus by the then Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak. On 24 May 2024 the Jagiellonian University celebrated the 10th anniversary of the creation of this international research centre within the framework of the oldest Polish higher education institution. The jubilee celebrations were accompanied by the opening of new premises of the MCB.

Lecture by the President of Cyprus at the Jagiellonian University

On 24 May, the Jagiellonian University was visited by the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides with his spouse Philippa Karsera. The visit included a meeting with the University authorities and a lecture delivered to guests gathered in the Collegium Novum Assembly Hall.

Results of 9th Smart Book contest announced

Natural History of the Future: What the Laws of Biology Tell Us about the Destiny of the Human Species by Rob Dunn was chosen Smart Book of the Year 2023. The winners in this and four other categories were announced during the Smart Book of the Year award gala, which was held on 23 May 2024 as part of the Copernicus Festival.

New Version of Scientific Journals Online

ejournals – the new version of Scientific Journals Online portal of the Jagiellonian University Press - is a modern platform for online publishing, presentation and distribution of research journals from different fields of research. There are over 110 academic periodicals published by 25 institutions currently collaborating with ejournals. 4.5-5 million files are downloaded from the website each year.

JU researchers published in Chemical Reviews

A review paper written by members of the Multifunctional Luminescent Materials Group: Jakub Zakrzewski, Michał Liberka and Dr. hab. Szymon Chorąży, Prof. UJ, has been published in the jorunal Chemical Reviews. The paper was co-authored by Dr Junhao Wang from the University of Tsukuba and Prof. Shin-ichi Ohkoshi from the University of Tokyo.

IMPULSE Kick-off meeting at the Jagiellonian University

The IMPULSE project (IMmersive digitalization: uPcycling cULtural heritage towards new reviving StratEgies), funded within the framework of the Horizon Europe programme, was officially kicked off in the JU Auditorium Maximum. The project, coordinated by Dr Żaneta Kubic from the JU Museum Collegium Maius, received a grant of nearly 3.4 million euro, and will be carried out within the next 36 months.
