Exhibition: 'Archie Granot Papercuts'

JU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science and the Jagiellonian Library invite you to attend the opening of an exhibition of works by Archie Granot, an Israeli paper cut artist, which will be held in the Exhibition Room at the Library until 16 July.

Born in London, England in 1946, Archie Granot has lived in Israel from 1967. Prior to moving to Jerusalem in 1978, he was a member of an agricultural community where he milked cows and grew melons. He has a MA in Russian Studies from the University of Glasgow, Scotland and a BA in Political Science and Russian Studies from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.

A self-taught artist, Archie Granot made his first paper cut in 1979 and has been creating paper art ever since. His unique works, inspired by Jewish and Biblical texts, show that the revival of this traditional art form need not be a repetition of motifs and style.

His work is in public and private collections worldwide. These include the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; the Jewish Museum, New York; the Jewish Theological Seminary, New York; the Library of Congress, Washington D.C; the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art, Saint Louis; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Yeshivah University Museum, New York.

The exibition will be open on Mondays from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and throughout the rest of the week from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. Additionally, it will be open on 7 and 14 July between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. and on 16 July between 9.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m.
