The seminar is an intergenerational meeting of European sinologists. This year, its participants will focus on the issues of Chinese art history. It will take place three years after the opening of the Taiwan Resource Centre for Chinese Studies at the JU Faculty of Philology.
The series of lectures by Prof. Sheng-Ching Chang 'Chinese Art History' will be the main part of the academic event addressed to sinology students as well as the wider audience.
The series will introduce the development of Chinese art history in six themes: urban, garden, architecture, painting, sculpture and handicrafts. Works of art will be used as examples in presentations, including the Suzhou Garden designed by the Southern literati, the Chinese Buddhist architecture Nanjing Porcelain Tower, and collection of the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Mountain Travel Map, Wanyu Songfeng, a Buddha statue and blue and white porcelain will be shown to introduce, analyse and explain the characteristics of various art developments in Chinese history. Relevant works of art will by analysed in the context of art history, including items related to the royal family, the literati, and common people. The art of class explores artistic skills, craft style, artistic value, historical meaning and humanistic meaning.

The lectures will be accompanied by MA/BA/PhD panels for students who would like to share their passion for the Chinese language and culture and present their academic papers in the fields related to China and Taiwan.
