Iranian delegation visits the JU

On 6 March, the Jagiellonian University was visited by a delegation from the Imam Khomeini International University in Iran. The researchers were greeted by JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak.

The delegation comprised Prof. Sayad Abolhassan Naeini, President of Imam Khomeini International University, Prof. Saeid Abbasbandy from the Department of Mathematics and Dr Rohullah Bayat, Deputy of International Affairs. The Jagiellonian University was represented by Rector’s Proxy for Internationalisation Prof. Adam Jelonek, JU Faculty of Philology Vice-Dean for Educational Affairs Dr hab. Władysław Witalisz, and Prof. Anna Krasnowolska from the JU Department of Iranian Studies as well as representatives of faculties – Prof. Piotr Kłodkowski (Faculty of Philosophy) and Dr hab. Leszek Hadasz (Faculty of Physica, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science).

The participants of the meeting discussed the potential for establishing cooperation in the area of student and staff mobility as well as establishing joint study programmes, including joint and double degree programmes, particularly in the area of chemistry, mathematics, international relations, and language teaching. Currently, there is work in progress on the Memorandum of Understanding, which will be signed by representatives of both higher education institutions.

The bill of Imam Khomeini International University’s constitution was ratified by Majlis (the Islamic Parliament of Iran) in January of 1984 after the Islamic Revolution. As an educational, research, and cultural institution it functions under the authority of the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. Every year, IKIU admits around 200 foreign students from all over the world.
