UAE Ambassador attends the opening ceremony at JU Institute of Oriental Studies

On October 2018, the opening ceremony of the new academic year at the Jagiellonian University Institute of Oriental Studies was held in JU Collegium Novum. The event featured a lecture by the Ambassador of United Arab Emirates to Poland Yousif Eisa Al-Sabri.

The ceremony was preceded by the Ambassador’s meeting with the JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak, the Dean of the JU Faculty of Philology Prof. Elżbieta Górska and the Head of the JU Institute of Oriental Studies Prof. Barbara Michalak-Pikulska. The conversation focused on cooperation between the Jagiellonian University Institute of Oriental Studies and the UAE Embassy in Poland, with special focus on the next year’s celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the first oriental studies unit at the Jagiellonian University.

During the opening ceremony of the new academic year at the JU Institute of Oriental Studies, the new students were addressed by the JU Rector, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, and the Head of the Institute of Oriental Studies. In his speech Prof. Wojciech Nowak pointed out that the high quality of education at the institute is reflected in the number of its alumni who find employment at diplomatic institutions. He also stressed that Oriental Studies graduates will play a very important role of mediators between different cultures in the globalised world.

The opening addresses were followed by the lecture by Ambassador Yousif Eisa Al-Sabri, entitled “Cultural Relations between Poland and the UAE”. The later part of the ceremony was devoted to student research societies at the JU Institute of Oriental Studies, those activity was presented by  Dr hab. Tomasz Majtczak, the Institute’s Deputy Head for Student Affairs.
