JU expands its collaboration with Chinese universities

On 20 May 2019, the Jagiellonian University was visited by delegations from Sichuan University and Beijing University of Technology. They were received by the JU Rector’s Proxy for Internationalisation Prof. Adam Jelonek. The aim of the meeting was, in the case of the former of the aforementioned higher education institutions, to seek new ways of strengthening cooperation, and in the case of the second one, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding and Academic Cooperation Agreement.

The delegation from Sichuan University comprised Yan Shijing (Vice-President of Sichuan University for International Affairs), Li Zhiqiang, (Deputy Dean of the School of International Studies), Yu Miao, (College of Foreigner Languages and Cultures) and Liao Simi (Regional Manager for European Affairs of the International Office). At the meeting, the Jagiellonian University was represented, among others, by Prof. Adam Jelonek, Dr hab. Waldemar Martyniuk (Director of the Center for Polish Language and Culture in the World), Dr Katarzyna Sarek (Faculty of Philology), Dr hab. Agnieszka Rak (Faculty of Biology) and Adriana Hołub-Palonka (International Relations Office). The meeting participants discussed the prospects for enhancing the collaboration based on the Memorandum of Understanding the Student Exchange Agreement between the two institutions signed in 2018.

The delegation from Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) consisted of Prof. Li Guojun (Assistant President of Beijing University of Technology), Prof. Hao Chen (Deputy Director of International Office) and Prof. Liang Yangsong (Chinese Director of the Opole Confucius Institute, Professor of the School of Economics and Management). As for the Jagiellonian University, the meeting was attended by Prof. Adam Jelonek, Faculty of Philosophy Vice-Dean for Educational Affairs Prof.  Jacek Nowak, Prof. Jolanta Perek-Białas from the Institute of Sociology and Adriana Hołub-Palonka from the International Relations Office. The participants also included Prof. Piotr Markowski from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. The conversation focused on different areas of prospective collaboration between the two aforementioned Kraków higher education institutions and the Beijing University of Technology. The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Academic Cooperation Agreement between the JU and BJUT.

The partnership with the Chinese universities includes exchange of students, exchange of research materials, publications and information, joint conferences and academic programmes, joint degree programmes, joint research activities and publications as well as exchange of academic and non-academic staff members.
