On 17 July, a delegation from the Chinese Academy of Sciences visited the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS of the Jagiellonian University. The aim of the visit, which is a continuation of a previous meeting with representatives of the Chinese higher education institution, is to establish a framework for further cooperation in the area of synchrotron radiation.
The delegation consisted of scholars from the Beijing Advanced Sciences and Innovation Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences: Director of the Center Xiaoming Jiang, Chief Scientist Hong Ding, and Chief of Division of Science and Technology Shuai Xiao. The guests were welcomed by the Director of the SOLARIS synchrotron Prof. Marek Stankiewicz and JU Rector’s Proxy for Internationalisation Prof. Adam Jelonek.
The participants of the meeting discussed issues related to the Huairou Science City project, which entails building and expansion of a large research centre with state-of-the-art equipment. In the near future, it will boast a variety of facilities, including Synergetic Extreme Condition User Facility, Clean Energy R&D Platform, and a fourth-generation High Energy Synchrotron Radiation Light Source.
The cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Science and Huairou Science City as well as other world-class research centres is a result of the International Cooperation Alliance of National Science Centers initiative, established during the 2nd Conference for International Science Centers. The initiative involves close cooperation between leading national research centres, realised through transfer of knowledge and experience and student and staff mobility. It brings together numerous scientific centres from around the world – aside from the Chinese Academy of Science and the Jagiellonian University, it also includes British Council for Science and Technology Facilities, Dresden Rosendorf Research Center, European Organization for Nuclear Research, Italian Yili and Kafermi Light Sources, South Korea Posco Accelerator Laboratory, and many more.
