Prof. Józef Dulak will represent Poland in ESFRI

Prof. Józef Dulak from the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology was selected by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education to represent Poland as part of the European Strategic Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). Prof. Dulak will become a member of the Health and Food Working Group.

The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures was established in 2002, with a mandate from the EU Council to support a coherent and strategy-led approach to policy-making on research infrastructures in Europe, and to facilitate multilateral initiatives leading to the better use and development of research infrastructures, at EU and international level. In 2006, exactly ten years ago, ESFRI published its first roadmap for the construction and development of the next generation of pan-European research infrastructures. The roadmap was updated in 2008, 2010, 2016 and 2018, to include projects and landmarks that intend to foster European leadership across a broad range of scientific fields.

Prof. Józef Dulak is the head of JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology Department of Medical Biotechnology. His interests include stem cell research, vascular biology and medicine, gene and cell therapy, and disease mechanisms caused by inflammations and oxidative stress. He held post-doctoral scholarships at the University of Amsterdam, University of Münster and Stanford University. For two years, he worked at the University of Innsbruck. He was a member of the Committee for the Evaluation of Research Institutions, Polish Academy of Science Committee for Biotechnology, Polish Academy of Sciences Committee for Biochemistry and Biophysics as well as the president of the Kraków branch of the Polish Biochemical Society. He helped organise numerous national and international scientific conferences.

Prof. Dulak supervised theses of several PhD candidates. He delivers lectures on gene therapy and medical biotechnology. He holds an honorary doctorate of the Orleans University. He is a member of the European Society of Cardiology, American Heart Association and International Society for Stem Cell Research.
