Several dozen of Jagiellonian University scholars have made their way onto the list of top two percent researchers in the world. The ranking, compiled by the University of Stanford in collaboration with Elsevier and SciTech Strategies, assesses the overall impact of researchers based on bibliometrics.

The list contains the top two percent of world researchers that have been most cited by other authors. The overall quality of the scientific contribution of every scholar is rated on the basis of their bibliometric index, which includes criteria such as the h-index, citations (including auto-citations), Impact Factor, and place and role on the list of authors. The ranking features almost 160,000 specialists from 22 academic disciplines, with 172 sub-divisions. The total number of scientists from Polish higher education institutions on the list is 726.
