JU MC scientists working on a drug to treat acute respiratory distress syndrome

The research project headed by Prof. Marcin Majka and Prof. Wojciech Szczeklik from the Jagiellonian University Medical College (JU MC) has received positive recommendation from the Medical Research Agency (a Polish governmental body) as part of the efforts to quickly develop medical measures to prevent, diagnose and treat coronavirus infections. The JU MC scientists will conduct phase I and II non-commercial clinical trials on patients with the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by COVID-19.

The final of the competition ‘Coimbra Group 3-Minute Thesis’ held at JU

On 24 April 2020, the institutional final of the Coimbra Group 3-Minute-Thesis took place for the first time at the Jagiellonian University (CG 3MT JU). This year’s edition of the competition was held under the auspices of the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak.

JU archaeologists publish an article in Antiquity journal

The results of the study conducted by researchers from the JU Institute of Archaeology in the canyons located in the border region between the US states of Colorado and Utah have been presented in the British journal Antiquity and made the cover of its latest issue. The article has been authored by Dr Radosław Palonka (head of the project, JU) and Katarzyna Ciomek, as well as Kathleen O’Meara and Zi Xu from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore.

National Science Centre to fund JU research into cybersecurity

The National Science Centre (NCN) has published the results of the IdeaLab call for interdisciplinary ground-breaking research projects to be carried out by Polish researchers in collaboration with researchers from countries of the European Economic Area. Within its framework, a 1.3 million euro grant was awarded to a cybersecurity research project led by Dr Jan Jakub Piasecki from the JU Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Philosophy and Bioethics.

JU Botanical Garden in full bloom

Due to the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, the Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University has not yet been opened for the new season and it is not yet clear when it will happen. Hence, we are presenting the photo gallery of selected plants from the garden blooming in April. This spring, because of a mild winter, many species flowered a little earlier than usual.
