The Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak is pleased to invite you to the opening ceremony of the Academic Year 2016/2017.
According to the tradition, the ceremony will be preceded by a Holy Mass in St. Anne’s Collegiate Church celebrated by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz at 9.00 a.m.
After the service, the customary procession of professors in gowns will leave Collegium Maius and march through the streets of Kraków to Auditorium Maximum. It is the only occasion during the entire year when JU authorities and professors can be seen in their traditional academic attire. All fifteen JU faculties take part in the march, and each professor wears a gown whose colour symbolises his or her faculty.
The main part of the celebrations starts at 11.00 a.m. in JU Auditorium Maximum. It will include the matriculation of 32 students from all JU faculties and the presentation of JU Rector’s Award “Jagiellonian Laurel” as well as other university decorations.
The academic year opening lecture will be delivered by Dr hab. Dorota Szumska.
The celebrations will be concluded with an evening concert by Słowianki Song and Dance Ensemble, starting at 6.00 p.m. in Auditorium Maximum.
