The JU Institute of Musicology houses a collection of musical items from Paweł Lechowski’s collection of Romani artefacts. The unique exhibits include original instruments used by Romani folk bands, flamenco costumes, as well as a collection of publications with musical notation of “Gypsy romances”. The visitors will also have an opportunity to watch a documentary related to the topic of the exhibition.

The opening of the exhibition, attended by the Dean of the JU Faculty of History Prof. Stanisław Sroka, was held on 10 December. The exhibition has been organised by a group led by Prof. Anna Piotrowska as part of the BESTROM project funded within the framework of HERA Cultural Encounters programme. The international project "Beyond stereotypes: cultural exchanges and the Romani contribution to European public spaces" (BESTROM) aims to study the contribution of Romani people to the development of European culture. Besides the Jagiellonian University researchers, the project also involves scholars from Spain, the United Kingdom, and Finland.
