The 24th International Conference of International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language in Poland (IATEFL Poland) started on 18 September 2015 at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. The subject of this year's conference, co-organised by the Jagiellonian Language Centre, is the Quality in Language Education in Various Educational Environments.

The conference opening ceremony was held in the building of the JU Faculty of Management and Intercultural Communication. The participants were welcomed by the Jagiellonian University Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs Prof. Andrzej Mania, the Deputy Director of the Jagiellonian Language Centre Dr Monika Stawicka, the President of IATFL Marjorie Rosenberg, and the President of IATFL Poland Sławomir Nowikowski. In his opening address, Prof. Andrzej Mania stressed the importance of foreign language teaching in university education. He also pointed out that knowledge of foreign languages broadens young people's horizons and changes their way of thinking. "This is a gift from you, as language teachers, to them, as language learners," he said.

The  three-day conference brings together practitioners and researchers from the field of language teaching in different educational contexts – from kindergarten to adult education. The conference is also known for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere, where foreign language teachers from Poland and abroad are able to network, discuss and socialise.

IATEFL Poland is the Polish branch of the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language. According to its mission statement, IATEFL Poland  "aims to be the leading organisation representing English teaching professionals within the country, offering a range of services and publications which serve to support and maintain the development of its members within the EFL world."
