A meeting with this year's Nobel Prize winner in literature Swietlana Alexievich entitled "Russia's Unwomanly Face" was held on 19 October 2015 in JU Auditorium Maximum.
The talk with the Belarusian writer and journalist was attended by members of Jagiellonian University authorities, including the Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, deans of JU faculties, as well as numerous staff members and students. The meeting was led by Wojciech Radziwinowicz, a reporter and columnist specialising in Russian affairs.
The title of the meeting referred to the Nobel laureate's famous book War's Unwomanly Face, published in 1985.
During the meeting, the author answered questions on a number of topics related to her works, including her, sometimes difficult, relations with people about whom she has written and the phenomenon of the Soviet man. Then the discussion moved on to the issues related to the recent history and current socio-political reality of Russia, Belarus, and other post-Soviet states. After the meeting Ms Alexievich signed books brought by the readers.
The event, co-organised by the Jagiellonian University was part of the Conrad Festival - the largest literary event in Poland and one of the largest in Europe.
