On December 22, 2015 the Jagiellonian University was visited by a delegation from South Korea led by the Ambassador to Poland Ji-in Hong.
The diplomat was received in Collegium Novum by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak. The meeting was also attended by Rev. Prof. Krzysztof Kościelniak and Prof. Adam Jelonek of the JU Institute of the Middle and Far East, who gave an overview of the activities of the institute, with special focus on the development of the Centre of Korean Studies, which is planned to be established next year. The meeting participants pointed out that there is an increased interest in Korea among young people in Poland and vice-versa: more and more young Koreans are eager to learn Polish language and visit Poland, which provides excellent prospects for increased academic cooperation. The ambassador was very enthusiastic about the plans to open the Korean Studies Centre and said that the Embassy will provide all necessary support for the project.
Ji-in Hong was born in 1956. He entered the foreign affairs ministry in 1981. As a diplomat, he has worked at Korean embassies all over the world: in Canada, the USA, the Netherlands, India and Pakistan. Since June 2014 he has been the Ambasador of South Korea to Poland, and, since September 2014, to Lithuania.
