JU student chosen the most popular international student in Poland

Francesco Gubinelli, the student of the Faculty of Biology, Biophysics and Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University is among the winners of the Interestudent 2015 competition for the best international student in Poland.

He was chosen by an Internet vote from among 21 finalists. Having received 10,538 votes, which is over 2,500 votes more than the second best candidate, he won the title of the Most Popular International Student in Poland. Besides, winners in BA, MA and PhD categories were selected by the competition jury.

The results of the competition were announced on 21 January 2016 in Gdańsk, during the conference International Students in Poland 2016, organised by the Perspektywy Foundation, the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland, the Medical University of Gdańsk and the Municipality of Gdańsk. The Jagiellonian University was represented by Prof. Beata Tobiasz-Adamczyk, the Rector's Proxy for Education and International Cooperation at the Medical College.

Francesco Gubinelli comes from Italy. He came to Poland in 2011 and is currently an MSc student of Molecular Biology at the JU Faculty of Medicine. His candidacy was recommended by his academic supervisor Prof. Ewa Zuba-Surma. In the future, he would like to continue his studies at the doctoral level.

Commenting on the prize, Mr Gubinelli said:

"It is pretty hard to explain how I feel at the moment: for sure I am really happy and glad, and at the same time it is a huge incentive to work harder and do all my best to reach new and stimulating achievements. I also feel that this prize is not only for Francesco Gubinelli, but also for all international students of the JU, for our Department, Faculty, University, and for the people that believed in me."
