EUNIS Rectors' Conference in Kraków

The main goal of the conference is to explain in which way IT may help European Universities in the changing landscape.

14 April 2016 saw the start of the three-day meeting of nearly 40 rectors of member institutions of EUNIS - European University Information Systems.

The rectors were accompanied by more than a dozen eminent speakers, who will discuss the subject of this year's conference: Smart European University.

The opening of the conference took place in Collegium Novum Assembly Hall. It was preceded by a meeting of EUNIS board, attended by the JU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs Prof. Andrzej Mania and the Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn.

This year's conference takes place in Kraków and is hosted by the Jagiellonian University and the AGH University of Science and Technology. Hence, the conference was opened by Prof. Tomasz Szmuc, the AGH Vice-Rector for Cooperation, whereas the first plenary session New students – old universities was opened and moderated by Prof. Stanisław Kistryn. The Participants were also addressed by the new EUNIS president John Murphy (The University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin).

The conference entitled Smart European University is a continuation of the previous ones (Prague, Helsinki), which attracted many Rectors and decision makers from various Universities. The main goal of the Kraków conference is to explain in which way IT may help European Universities in the changing landscape, through addressing the main challenges: decreasing number of young people in Europe, hard competition from US and Asian Universities, globalization, and rapid development of mobile devices reshaping the approach to learning and knowledge acquisition.

The conference will take place until 16 April. During the two following days, the sessions will be held at the AGH University of Science and Technology.
