Three eminent urologists performed pioneering operations using radical laparoscopic prostatectomy at the Department of Urology of the University Hospital in Kraków on 22 June 2016.
Life transmission of the surgeries was watched by participants of the 46th Congress of the Polish Urological Association in Katowice. It is worth adding that several days ago the European Training Centre for Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures was opened at the Jagiellonian University.
The Head of the Department of Urology at the University Hospital Prof. Piotr Chłosta, who performed one of the surgeries said that the introduction of the new technique will contribute to the improvement of the quality of urology in Poland and give patients treatment opportunities that until recently had not been available in our country.
Two other operations were carried out by Prof. Marcin Słowiejski from Szczecin and Prof. Tomasz Derwa from Bydgoszcz. All three surgeons are internationally distinguished urologists.
As stressed by Prof. Chłosta, laparoscopy can be compared to operating through a keyhole. Such surgeries are more precise than traditional ones, which results both in their greater effectiveness and the faster recovery of patients.
The Wednesday operation broadcast marked the start of the 46th Congress of the Polish Urological Association. It can also be considered a symbolic opening of the European Training Centre for Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques. The accreditation from the European Board of Urology. was received by the Department of Urology at the University Hospital in Kraków on 21 June.
