JU and Samsung to collaborate on innovative projects

JU and Samsung to collaborate on innovative projects

The Jagiellonian University and Samsung Electronics Polska have signed an agreement to conduct joint research, development and teaching initiatives. The agreement was signed on 14 March in Collegium Novum Senate Room by Prof. Dorota Malec, JU Vice-Rector for University Development, and Youngmin Lee, President of Samsung Electronics R&D Europe.

As an international IT corporation, Samsung plans to cooperate with the Jagiellonian University on research and development, innovation and transfer of knowledge by using its influence and position in the global market. The agreement signed today establishes long-term collaboration in developing innovative projects related to new technology as well as exchange of knowledge and experts between both parties.

‘Working together with one of global IT leaders will create new possibilities for our researchers and allow them to develop some of the most innovative technologies. Through their research, they may be able to affect the lives of millions of people. We also hope that the teaching programmes we formulate will help us teach highly skilled specialists, which will surely make the Jagiellonian University an even better choice for future students’, said Prof. Dorota Malec.

Details regarding particular methods and forms of cooperation will be specified in additional agreements. In the first stage of collaboration, joint research will be conducted chiefly by the JU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. Samsung will deliver a list of subjects it is interested in researching, and in response the Faculty will present solutions developed by its scientists. After a few several-month long Proof of Concept projects, both parties will focus on large-scale research.
