JU doctoral student will represent Poland at PyeongChang Winter Olympics

JU doctoral student will represent Poland at PyeongChang Winter Olympics

Weronika Biela, a doctoral student from the JU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science will be part of the Polish squad at the XXIII Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. She will compete in women’s snowboard parallel giant slalom.

The athlete was born in 1991. She lives in Zakopane and is a member of the local academic sports club. She took up snowboarding several years ago. Prior to that she did alpine skiing and winning Poland championship at the age of 16.

The last year’s gold medal winner at Winter Universiade will compete in the qualification round of women’s snowboard parallel giant slalom on 21 February. The finals will be held two days later.

The Polish squad at the XXIII Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 will consist of 62 athletes. They will compete for medals in the following disciplines: biathlon, bobsleigh, figure skating, speed skating (including short track), ski jumping, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, Nordic combined, and snowboarding. The Olympic Games will be held from February 8 to 25.
