JU to strengthen ties with Palacký University Olomouc

On 2 July 2018 the Jagiellonian University was visited by a delegation from Palacký University Olomouc – one of the leading Czech institutions of higher education. The meeting aimed to explore the possibilities of collaboration between the two universities.

The Czech delegation was led by the Rector of Palacký University Prof. Mgr. Jaroslav Miller, who was accompanied by the Vice-Rector for International Relations Doc. Mgr. Martin Kudláček, the Dean of the Faculty of Science Doc. RNDr. Martin Kubala, and the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Arts Doc. Pavlína Flajšarová.

The meeting, held in the historic building of Collegium Maius, was attended by the JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, the JU Vice-Rector for University Development Prof. Dorota Malec, the JU Rector’s Proxy for Internationalisation Prof. Adam Jelonek, and the JU Rector’s Proxy for Innovation Dr hab. Andrzej Adamski. For the second part of the meeting the participants were joined by deans and vice-deans of selected JU faculties, as well as representatives of the Centre for Technology Transfer CITTRU, the Jagiellonian Centre of Innovation, the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS, and the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology.

The representatives of both universities delivered presentations about their institutions, with special focus on cooperation prospects. The Czech delegation was provided with an overview of the work of selected JU units, along with the cooperation possibilities they offer. The meeting participants explored the prospects for collaboration between their universities in such fields as double degree programmes, scholarship programmes, student exchange, as well as research partnership opportunities. They also exchanged experiences related to current challenges in the field of education and research. It was pointed out that the cultural affinity between Poland and the Czech Republic will facilitate fruitful collaboration between the two universities.

Founded in the 16th century, Palacký University Olomouc is the second oldest Czech institution of higher education (after Charles University in Prague). It currently has over 25 thousand students.
