The Jagiellonian University took first place among 50 Polish higher education institutions listed in the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) 2018/2019 by the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. The oldest university in Poland was ranked 307th in the world, which marks a rise of 16 places from 2017/2018. Once again, the list was topped by Harvard University.
The URAP is an international bibliometric ranking, evaluating the research activity of 2.5 thousand institutions of higher educations from all over the world. The criteria include the number of publications in the leading research journals, the citation index, and the level of international collaboration.
The first 15 places were taken by American, British and Canadian universities. The list was topped by Harvard University, followed by the University of Toronto and the University of Oxford. The top 10 also includes Stanford University, the University College London, the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Cambridge, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Michigan, and the University of Washington in Seattle.
The Jagiellonian University ranked highest among Polish academic centres, taking the 307th place, followed by the University of Warsaw (343rd) place and the AGH University of Science and Technology (521st place).
