JU dermatologist wins an internship at Harvard Medical School

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange has announced the winners of the second edition of the Walczak Programme, which allows Polish scientists and doctors to get internships at the best medical centres in the United states. Agata Kłosowicz from the JU MC Clinic and Chair in Dermatology is one of the seventeen winners of this year’s edition of the contest.

The internships will last from three to six months. Throughout their stay in the USA, the recipients of the Walczak Programme are to participate in research projects and observe their American colleagues during their everyday work activities.

Agata Kłosowicz is currently studying to become a specialist in dermatology and venereology at the JU MC Clinic and Chair in Dermatology. She is also working on her PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. Anna Wojas-Pelc at the JU Faculty of Medicine, which she graduated from in 2015. During her academic career, Agata Kłosowicz has received scholarships and grants from the National Research Centre, Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission and European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. She has also completed an internship in Miller School of Medicine (Miami, Florida). Within the framework of the Walczak Programme, she will realise a study project at Harvard Medical School under the supervision of Dr Rachael Clark. The project concerns cutaneous T-cell lymphoma in humanised mouse models.

The aim of the Walczak Programme is to strengthen the potential of Polish scientific units and medical entities by supporting the international mobility of researchers in the fields of cardiology, cardiac surgery, oncology, allergology, diabetology, psychiatry and infectious diseases. The Programme offers visits lasting between 3 to 6 months, with destinations being the best medical institutions located in the United States of America. Persons carrying out projects under the Programme will have an opportunity for scientific and professional development, as well as to gain valuable experience by working with the international scientific community in the field of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, tumours, allergies and infectious diseases, which in turn will contribute to the improvement of medical care in Poland.
