Maciej Bukowski wins public choice award in MT180 contest

On Wednesday, 9 June 2021, the Central European finale of the competition “My PhD Thesis in 180 Seconds” ("Ma Thèse en 180 Secondes" - MT180) organised by the JU Institute of Romance Studies in collaboration with the French Institute in Warsaw, was held online. The public choice award went to Maciej Bukowski, a PhD student of the Jagiellonian University Faculty of International and Political Studies.

The MT180 contest is addressed to doctoral students from all fields of study, providing them with the opportunity to present their research to a wider audience, explaining complex issues in an accessible way. The participants have to deliver their presentation in French in just 3 minutes, using only one slide. The competitor who does this in the most attractive and interesting manner becomes the winner. The awards include a scholarship from the French government.

The competition has been organised since 2012 and today it is held in nearly 30 countries. Its third Polish edition took place online in March 2021. The winners participated in the Central European finale on June 9, which also featured French-speaking early-stage researchers from Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. First place was taken by Elise Sivault, a PhD student of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, advancing into the international finale of the competition, which will take place in Paris in September. Anna Krzyżak from the Pedagogical University of Kraków took second place, followed by Dorota Kołbuk from the Institute of Paleobiology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Eliska Kuchovska from the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine, who shared third place.

The public choice award was won by Maciej Bukowski from the JU Chair in International Relations and Foreign Policy, who presented his PhD thesis Le changement climatique dans la compétition entre l'UE, les États Unis et la Chine, written under the supervision of Dr hab. Tomasz Młynarski, Prof. UJ.

The presentations of all Central European finalists are available on the YouTube Channel of the JU Institute of Romance Studies.
