The Journal of the American Chemical Society has published a paper entitled Exfoliated ferrierite-related unilamellar nanosheets in solution and their use for preparation of mixed zeolite hierarchical structures by Prof. Barbara Gil and Prof. Wiesław Roth from the JU Zeolites Chemistry Group. The publication was prepared with scientists from the JU Department of Physical Chemistry and Charles University Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry.

The paper is devoted to preparation of ferrierite-related structures in the form of 2 nm thick rectangular lattices similar to those found in other 2D materials, such as graphene through a process called exfoliation or delamination. In a solution, the nanosheets behave like huge flat  particles, which can be used to create hybrid and composite materials with other active particles or molecules, something that is impossible in the case of their traditional three-dimensional counterparts. Using two different 2D zeolites in the form of nanosheet solutions, the researchers created a hybrid of two different zeolite structures.
