Jagiellonian University ranked best in Poland by THE

According to Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022, published on 2 September 2021, the Jagiellonian University is ranked in the range 501-600, achieving the highest score among 23 Polish higher education institutions taken into account. The oldest Polish university maintained the position from the previous year, when it had advanced from the top 800 to the top 600.

The authors of this year’s ranking analysed the data from 1,662 universities across 99 countries. The JU was globally ranked between the 501st and 600th place, scoring 3.67 more points than last year.

The ranking, created by the British magazine Times Higher Education evaluates universities across all of their core missions, based on indicators grouped into five criteria: teaching, research, citations (30% of the score each), international outlook (7.5% of the score) and industry income (2.5% of the score).

One of the Jagiellonian University’s core strengths lies in the high citation rate of its researchers’ articles indexed by Elsevier’s Scopus database. The JU especially improved its performance concerning the proportion between the number of awarded PhD degrees and bachelor’s degrees and between the number of awarded PhD degrees and the number of academic staff.

For the sixth consecutive time the ranking was topped by the University of Oxford, UK. Joint second place was taken by two American higher education institutions – the California Institute of Technology and Harvard University.

The Jagiellonian University's score in five areas assessed by THE World University Rankings as compared to the global Overall Score. The black dot marks the JU’s position, whereas the horizontal line indicates the median in a given category.
