JU student earns second place in the European Kyokushin Karate Championship

JU student earns second place in the European Kyokushin Karate Championship

Julia Kędzierska from the JU Faculty of Management and Social Communication has earned a silver medal during the 4th WKB European Kyokushin Karate Championship organised in Leżajsk. The tournament attracted more than five hundred participants from fifteen countries, including strong contestants from Ukraine, Belarus, Span and Latvia.

Since early childhood, Julia Kędzierska was deeply involved in sports, which is why she chose to study Management in Sports and Tourism at the Jagiellonian University. She has been training karate for ten years. Her determination earned her many awards: since 2014, she has won eight medals in the European Championship, including three gold ones. Throughout her career, she competed in all age categories across all levels – from regional tournaments to national championship. She graduated from Gdansk University of Physical Education and Sport. She is both a personal trainer and a karate instructor.

Last weekend, she returned to compete in the 4th WKB European Kyokushin Karate Championship. Although she managed to defeat her first two opponents, she was bested by World Championship medalist Agnieszka Winek from Warsaw after a very close match.

‘Though I didn’t win, I’m very pleased with the outcome of this tournament and my performance. For many reasons, this was one of my most difficult competitions yet. I faced many changes in my life – new place, new university, new sports team, and a new job. I missed my friends and family. But change is necessary, it is what makes us grow’, said Julia Kędzierska.
