Three projects from the Jagiellonian University to be funded via the Canaletto call

The aim of the call is to support the mobility of staff working together on joint projects at Polish and Italian universities. On the basis of a recommendation made by a Polish-Italian committee, the director of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange has allocated funding for 15 new projects to be realised in the years 2022–2023.



The funds awarded by the call will be used to cover the cost of travel expenses and accommodation, but not research projects themselves.

Out of the total of fifteen awarded programmes, three will be carried out by JU scientists:

  • EXOTICA: Measurements of strong interactions in strange exotic atoms by DAFNE: from the laboratory to neutron stars – project head: Dr Magdalena Skurzok, JU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science; partner: INFN Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare,
  • Is the degradation of circular RNA a new anti-inflammatory mechanism of MCPIP1? – project head: Dr Agata Lichawska-Cieślar, JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology; partner: IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Tumori Regina Elena,
  • Assessment of potential inhibitors of the main protease Mpro SARS-CoV-2 as candidates for COVID-19 mediction – from leading structures to lipid carrier systems – project head: Dr hab. Agnieszka Zagórska, JU MC Faculty of Pharmacy; partner: University of Milan.

The research projects have to be carried out over the course of 24 months, starting on 1 January 22 and ending no later than 31 December 2023.
