JU researchers publish a paper on polyelectrolyte multilayer films and microcapsules

The journal Advances in Colloids and Interface Science has published a paper presenting the latest developments in the research on stimuli-responsive polyelectrolyte multilayer films and microcapsules co-written by scientists from the Jagiellonian University Faculty of Chemistry in collaboration with Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The paper is an overview of the developments related to creating, mapping out the structure and describing properties of polyelectrolyte multilayer films and capsules that respond to various physical, chemical and biological stimuli. The paper describes and discusses their application as microcarriers for controlled delivery release of active components, substrates for controlled cells' growth, coatings for enhanced surface adhesion, or self-healing anticorrosive systems. It also presents the influence of various factors on the integrity and permeability of films and capsules together with related applications in biomedicine for controlled drug release as well as in biotechnology and industrial protective coatings.

The article Stimuli-responsive polyelectrolyte multilayer films and microcapsules is available open access on sciencedirect.com. Its authors are Dr Karolina Chojnacka-Górka and Prof. Szczepan Zapotoczny (JU Faculty of Chemistry) as well as Dr hab. Marta Kolasińska-Sójka and Dr Tomasz Kruk (Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences).
