The National Science Centre has published the results of OPUS 22+LAP/Weave competition. The grant winners include Dr Zofia Łapniewska from the Jagiellonian University who will carry out research into environmental protection in politics. The studies are aimed to better understand the impact of the implementation of green transformation policy on the EU states and identification of the areas in which it poses a risk of socio-economic polarisation.
As part of the OPUS 22+LAP/Weave competition, researchers can obtain funding for projects run without international partners as well as those carried out within the framework of bilateral or trilateral LAP collaboration. The funding can also be awarded to projects requiring the use of large international research equipment. The competition is addressed to scholars at all stages of their career. The LAP procedure is a new standard of evaluating applications implemented in research funding institutions. It aims to facilitate the obtaining of grants for international research projects and the evaluation of relevant applications by research funding institutions.
The grant winners include Zofia Łapniewska from the Jagiellonian University Faculty of Management and Social Communication who, together with Prof. Gräbner-Radkowitsch from the University of Flensburg (Germany), will carry out the project “Green transformation and economic polarisation in Europe: multilevel evaluation with Germany and Poland as case studies”. The research will be primarily aimed to better understand the impact of green transformation policy on countries and regions of the European Union and indicate the areas where it poses the risk of causing socio-economic polarisation.
The main part of study will be followed by an assessment of the possible effects of the analysed phenomena. It seems that if the socio-economic results of the European green transformation turn out to be indeed asymmetrical, relevant measures will have to be taken in order to prevent further polarisation in the European Union and ensure political agreement on the reforms that need to be introduced in order to attain the established goals in the area of sustainable development.
