A number of Jagiellonian University scholars have made their way onto the list of top scientists in the world published in 2023. The ranking, compiled by the University of Stanford in collaboration with Elsevier publishing house and SciTech Strategies company, assesses the overall impact of scientists based on bibliometrics.

The list contains the top two percent of world's researchers whose publications have been most cited by other authors. The overall quality of the research contribution of every scholar is rated on the basis of their bibliometric index, which includes such criteria as the h-index, citations (including auto-citations), Impact Factor, as well as the place and role on the list of authors. The list consists of two rankings, the first of which takes into account all research achievements of a given scholar (until 2022), whereas the second one is based on citations from a given calendar year (currently from 2022).
