From 11 to 13 December the Una Europa General Assembly was held in Ireland at the University College Dublin. The three-day event brought together participants from the Una Europa partner universities. The main topic of the Assembly is ‘What’s the Story’, which reflects Ireland’s rich storytelling heritage.
The Jagiellonian University was represented by Prof. Armen Edigarian, Vice-Rector for Educational affairs and Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, JU Rector's Proxy for Cooperation within the Framework of Una Europa, and Prof. Bartosz Brożek, Vice-Dean for Research and Development at the JU Faculty of Law and Administration as well as a delegation of people involved in Una Europa Activities at the Jagiellonian University.
The University College Dublin organised a series of meetings for the attendees, providing a perfect opportunity to sum up their achievements, discuss the ways of strengthening the collaboration between the partner universities and taking subsequent steps and actions as part of the Una.Futura project. The sessions will be accompanied by a number of events presenting the history and culture of Ireland.
The key events included the Una Europa Talk, held on 11 December – a panel session aimed at exchanging experience with the invited experts, held under the title ‘Rewriting the Script: European Universities alliances and the future of higher education’. The panel speakers were: Professor Orla Feely (President of University College Dublin), Professor Peter Lievens (Vice-Rector for International Policy, Interculturality, and Alumni Policy, KU Leuven), and Patricia Reilly (Head of Cabinet for Commissioner for Financial services, financial stability & Capital Markets Union, Mairéad McGuinness).
During a stimulating conversation, the panellists talked about the transformation of European higher education and its significance for institutions involved in the European Universities initiative. They discussed the challenges and opportunities for the stakeholders at a local, state, and European level, and how European higher education can and have to evolve in order to still serve the society.
