On 26 June 2015, the Jagiellonian University was visited by Prof. Teruo Higashi, a representative for international affairs of the University of Tsukuba.
The guest was received by Prof. Wojciech Nowak, JU Rector. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Barbara Michalak-Pikulska, head of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Prof. Romuald Huszcza, head of the Department of Japanese and Chinese Studies, and Dr Senri Sonoyama, coordinator of cooperation with Japanese higher education institutions.
The meeting was devoted to discussing cooperation in research and teaching between the two universities. Prof. Nowak emphasised the importance of Japan for technological development. The participants also talked about student mobility, technology transfer, and research in the areas of medicine, mathematics as well as social and life sciences.
The University of Tsukuba is one of the most distinguished Japanese universities. It is known for its high level of education in physics, economy and social sciences as well as physical education. In 2014, it was one of the 13 Japanese higher education institutions to be included in the Super Global Universities national funding programme.
