On October 30, the oldest Polish higher education institution hosted a visit from the Consul General of Germany to Kraków Holger Mahnicke, accompanied by his wife Kerstin Mahnicke. They were received in Collegium Novum building by the JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel and the JU Vice-Rector for International Relations Prof. Dorota Malec.

30 years of SYLFF programme at the JU

On 26-27 October 2023 the Jagiellonian University celebrated the 30th anniversary of joining the SYLFF network. SYLFF - the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund – is a fellowship program aimed to support students pursuing graduate studies in the humanities and social sciences, run jointly by two Japanese institutions - the Nippon Foundation and the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research.

On 25 October, to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Goncourt Prize: Polish Choice award, the president of the Goncourt Academy, Didier Decoin, accompanied by all members of the Academy, announced this year's list of nominees. The ceremony, hosted at the Jagiellonian University, was attended by JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel and the French Ambassador to Poland Étienne de Montaigne de Poncins.

JU strengthens ties with South Korea

On 23 October, the Ambassador of South Korea to Poland Hoonmin Lim visited Collegium Novum, where he was met by JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel and JU Vice-Rector for International Relations Prof. Dorota Malec. The programme of the visit featured a lecture in English at the JU Institute of the Middle and Far East and a tour of the oldest University building, Collegium Maius.

Dr Tomasz Kołodziej published in Nature

The journal Nature has published the results of a research project investigating the resonant X-ray excitation of the scandium-45 isomer together with a precise determination of the resonance energy. The project, carried out by an international team of scientists led by Yuri Shvyd’ko from the Argonne National Laboratory (Illinois, USA), also features Dr Tomasz Kołodziej from the JU National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS.

Better-B projects: restoring harmony and balance in beekeeping

Researchers from the Institute of Environmental Sciences of the Jagiellonian University joined forces with 17 European partners within the framework of Better-B project aimed at restoring harmony and balance in beekeeping. The scheme will receive funding worth € 6.3 million.
