JU scientists involved in breakthrough neutrino research

JU Astronomical Observatory researchers – Prof. Michał Ostrowski, Dr hab. Marek Jamrozy, Natalia Żywucka-Hejzner and Angel Priyama Noel – co-authored an article entitled ‘Multimessenger observations of a flaring blazar coincident with high-energy neutrino IceCube-170922A’, which was published in Science on 13 July 2018.

JU archaeological work displayed in Colorado, USA

On 7 July, an exhibition displaying objects discovered by JU Institute of Archaeology staff was opened in the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum in Colorado, USA. The bilingual exhibition, entitled ‘From Krakow to Castle Rock. Jagiellonian University’s Archaeological Investigations with Canyons of the Ancients National Monument’, will stay open until the end of July 2019.

Dr Krzysztof Strzałka becomes new Ambassador to the Slovak Republic

On 17 July 2018 Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz appointed new ambassadors of the Republic of Poland. Dr Krzysztof Strzałka from the JU Faculty of International and Political Studies was nominated as Ambassador to the Slovak Republic.

International award for Prof. Tomasz Brzozowski

The Executive Committee of the Gastrointestinal Section of the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology decided to award Prof. Tomasz Brzozowski, the Head of JU Medical College Chair in Physiology. The award was presented at the 10th International Symposium on Cell/Tissue Injury and Cytoprotection/ Organoprotection (ISCTICO), which took place in Kyoto

JU Faculty of Philology joins an international consortium

JU Faculty of Philology has joined a consortium consisting of eight universities offering a joint double degree English Studies programme. The agreement was signed by JU representatives during the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Ca' Foscari University of Venice.

Trauma for life: children trapped in a cave in Thailand

From 23 June to 10 July, a group of twelve boys along with their football coach were trapped underground by rocks and water in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Thailand. We asked Paulina Wróbel, a JU psychologist, about how such a traumatic experience may affect a child’s psyche.
