JU once again becomes one of two of the best universities in Poland

In the latest, 21st edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as the Shanghai Ranking, there are nine Polish higher education institutions – two fewer than in the previous year. Amongst them, the Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw have received the highest notes. Harvard University remains at the top of the list.

JU students take 2nd place in the International Mathematics Competition

Sunday, 9 August 2023 saw the conclusion of the 30th International Mathematics Competition for University Students, which fully returned to the in-person mode after a three-year-long pandemic-related break. Nearly 400 young mathematicians from all over the world competed in the Bulgarian town of Blagoevgrad.

Rector's Proxy for Cooperation within the Framework of Una Europa Prof. Stanisław Kistryn has become the coordinator of the Polish branch of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA). The Coalition, numbering more than 350 organisations from over 40 countries, was established last year in order to change the method of evaluation of research.

The latest issue of the journal Applied Catalysis B: Environmental features a paper by members of the Zeolites Chemistry Group Dr Karolina Tarach and Prof. Kinga Góra-Marek. The paper, entitled Hierarchical zeolites TNU-9 and IM-5 as the catalysts for cracking processes, is a result of collaboration with the Technical University of Valencia.

Three JU projects awarded with OPUS 24+LAP/Weave grants

Research teams from the Jagiellonian University Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Geography and Geology, and Faculty of Philosophy will carry out bilateral projects in collaboration with researchers from the Czech Republic within the framework of OPUS 24+LAP/Weave scheme. For that purpose they will receive nearly 3.2 million zlotys from the National Science Centre.

More than 3 million zlotys for Polish-Swiss research project

The National Science Centre has published the list of Polish winners of the OPUS 24+ LAP call, who will carry out joint projects within bilateral agreements in collaboration with Swiss research institutions. One of them is Prof. Dorota Stępień from the JU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science. The total amount of funding awarded to five winning projects amounts to nearly 9.2 million zlotys.

Horizon Europe grant for the Centre for International Studies and Development

As part of an international consortium, the Jagiellonian University Centre for International Studies and Development has been awarded a Horizon Europe grant (HORIZON-WIDERA-2023-ERA-01-06). The project European Hub for Contemporary China (EuroHub4Sino) will receive funding of 2,499,687 euro and will be carried out by 8 partners from 6 European countries.
