Three JU projects awarded with OPUS 24+LAP/Weave grants

Research teams from the Jagiellonian University Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Geography and Geology, and Faculty of Philosophy will carry out bilateral projects in collaboration with researchers from the Czech Republic within the framework of OPUS 24+LAP/Weave scheme. For that purpose they will receive nearly 3.2 million zlotys from the National Science Centre.

More than 3 million zlotys for Polish-Swiss research project

The National Science Centre has published the list of Polish winners of the OPUS 24+ LAP call, who will carry out joint projects within bilateral agreements in collaboration with Swiss research institutions. One of them is Prof. Dorota Stępień from the JU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science. The total amount of funding awarded to five winning projects amounts to nearly 9.2 million zlotys.

Horizon Europe grant for the Centre for International Studies and Development

As part of an international consortium, the Jagiellonian University Centre for International Studies and Development has been awarded a Horizon Europe grant (HORIZON-WIDERA-2023-ERA-01-06). The project European Hub for Contemporary China (EuroHub4Sino) will receive funding of 2,499,687 euro and will be carried out by 8 partners from 6 European countries.

Two JU MC researchers to receive EU funding

‘Braining’, a project co-authored by Dr hab. Karolina Pytka, Prof. UJ and Dr Klaudia Lustyk from the JU MC Faculty of Pharmacy Chair in Pharmacodynamics will receive 250,000 euro from EU funds within the framework of Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership.

Dr Mieszko Wilk receives the 2023 Eastern Star Award

A researcher from the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology Department of Immunology has received the 2023 Eastern Star Award given by the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS). The award will provide additional funding for the project on the role of secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) on local upper respiratory and systemic immune responses that Dr Wilk is currently carrying out as part of the Polonez Bis call.

The first global map of wildland-urban interface

Human settlements near wildlands take up less than 5% of Earth landmass, but are home to more than 41% of the world’s population. It is an environment in which human-environmental interactions are particularly intense. An international team of researchers created the first map of the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI), which was published in the latest issue of Nature.

Prof. Wojciech Czakon from the JU Faculty of Management and Social Communication and Prof. Marek Sanak from the JU Faculty of Medicine became members of the Academia Europaea, a prestigious organisation that brings together more than five thousand researchers from all branches of science.
