JU lawyer elected to the UNIDROIT Governing Council

Prof. Andrzej Szumański from the JU Faculty of Law and Administration was elected to the Governing Council of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT). The international organisation aims to facilitate the harmonisation of international private law in different countries through the development of model regulations and guidelines.

Dr Piotr Bystranowski granted Fulbright Senior Award

On 18 December 2023 the Polish-US Fulbright Commission announced the winners of the Fulbright Senior Award 2024-25 programme. Among them is Dr Piotr Bystranowski from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University. During his research stay in the United States, he will carry out the project ‘Measuring Meta-Interpretation’ at Georgetown University, Washington DC, in collaboration with Prof. Kevin Tobia.

Felczak and Wereszycki Prize goes to Dušan Fundić and Miklós Mitrovits

On 13 December 2023 the winners of W. Felczak and H. Wereszycki Prize were announced at a ceremony in the premises of Wydawnictwo Literackie publishing house. The prize is awarded annually, alternately to Polish and foreign researchers, in recognition of outstanding publications on the history of the Central-East Europe and its relationship with Poland from the Middle Ages to the present day. This year’s prize was awarded to Dušan Fundić and Miklós Mitrovits.

JU on the European Universities initiative arena

From 11 to 13 December the Una Europa General Assembly was held in Ireland at the University College Dublin. The three-day event brought together participants from the Una Europa partner universities. The main topic of the Assembly is ‘What’s the Story’, which reflects Ireland’s rich storytelling heritage.

JU students amongst the Central European champions in team programming

A team from the JU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science featuring Antoni Długosz, Kacper Paciorek, and Kacper Topolski has won the Central European regional edition of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC CERC), which took place on 8–10 December in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

JU archaeologists unravel the mysteries of Pueblo culture

‘Our findings from the current year completely change our perception of this settlement area in many different aspects’, says Prof. Radosław Palonka from the Institute of Archaeology of the Jagiellonian University, who for more than a dozen years has been investigating historic sites and customs of the 3000-year-old Pueblo culture on the border between Colorado and Utah. His team is the only Polish and one of the few European archaeological groups to work in the region.

Prof. Józef Dulak amongst the winners of the STEM Impact Award 2023-24

The Polish-American Fulbright Commission has completed the selection process for the STEM Impact Award 2023-24 and has announced the list of researchers that will be receive funding within the framework of this grant. Amongst them is Prof. Józef Dulak from the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, who will carry out his project at the University of Washington in Seattle (USA).
