3 JU projects to receive funding from the Polish-French “Polonium” programme

The results of this year’s edition of the Polish-French Hubert Curien “Polonium” Partnership Programme, aimed at supporting the mobility of collaborating research teams, have been published. Out of a total of 20 winning projects, 3 have been co-authored by the Jagiellonian University researchers.

Scientists from Kraków and Aachen to make new developments in proton therapy

Dr Aleksandra Wrońska from the JU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science will receive funding within the framework of the Bilateral exchange of researchers between Poland and Germany programme financed by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). Her project, entitled SiFi-CC: A novel type of Compton camera for online monitoring of proton therapy, will be realised in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University.

JU researcher wins a prestigious ERC grant

Dr Sebastian Glatt from the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology (MCB) of the Jagiellonian University has received the ERC Consolidator Grant worth almost 2 million euro. His research will contribute to the better understanding of molecular mechanisms behind the fundamental processes of high clinical relevance, which shape and control the functioning of cellular protein in all living organisms.

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) has announced the results of the first edition of the NAWA Chair programme. As part of the programme, the Jagiellonian University will be visited by Prof. Emilian Kavalski from China, who is going to run the project “Promoting Order in the Period of Turbulence”, together with Dr hab. Marcin Grabowski from the JU Faculty of International and Political Studies. The research will be carried out at the JU Centre for International Studies and Development (CISD) with the support from the FOB Future Society.

The international team of about 100 researchers, including scholars from the JU Institute of Physics that conduct the BOREXINO experiment in the underground laboratory in Gran Sasso (Italy), have announced that they have finally determined why large stars are shining. Their discovery was published in the latest issue of Nature.

The European Union will provide funds for JU research

The Jagiellonian University will receive over 107 million zlotys (~24 million euro) within the framework of the Intelligent Development Operational Programme 2014–2020. The funds will be assigned for the development of the ATOMIN 2.0 project as well as for the creation of the Centre for the Development of Treatment of Civilisation and Age Related Diseases (CDT-CARD).
