Jagiellonian University becomes part of UNA EUROPA network

On June 29-30, 2018 a meeting of the recently established network UNA EUROPA was held at the Catholic University of Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) in Belgium. The network consists of six universities: KU Leuven, Panthéon-Sorbonne, Università di Bologna, Freie Universität Berlin, Complutense University of Madrid and the Jagiellonian University.

The JU delegation included the Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn – the official JU representative in the network, the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration Prof. Bartosz Brożek – the UNA EUROPA board member, Head of the International Relations Office Dorota Maciejowska – the network coordinator and member of the “Sustainability” expert group, the Faculty of International and Political Studies Dean’s Proxy for International Relations Dr Natasza Styczyńska - member of the “European Studies” expert group, and Dr Natalia Bahlawan from the JU Museum Collegium Maius, member of the “Cultural Heritage” expert group.

The meeting was also attended by rectors and vice-rectors of other member universities, along with heads of international relations departments (network coordinators), deans, as well as experts in the area of university’s sustainable development, European studies, and cultural heritage.

A two-day meeting was aimed at working out the network’s strategy for the next few years and making decisions regarding the structure of the network as well as the responsibilities of its board and working groups. The participants officially named the network UNA EUROPA.

“The new network is not only an exchange programme or a plan of increasing mobility – we are laying strong foundations for the European university of the future. With the support of our partners’ knowledge and experience we will shape the future of the European academia”, the Rector of KU Leuven Luc Sels said in his opening address.  

The two day meeting consisted of parallel expert sessions and board meetings, which led to formulating short- and long-term agenda of the network, which is currently applying for EU funds within the framework of the European University project.
