On 15 October, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Poland Eduardas Borisovas as well as Lithuanian cultural attaché Rasa Rimickaitė visited the Jagiellonian University. They met with JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel and JU Vice-Rector for International Relations Prof. Dorota Malec in order to discuss Polish-Lithuanian relations, with particular emphasis on academic collaboration.
The participants of the meeting discussed the possibility of introducing Lithuanian language courses on Polish higher education institutions to help foster scientific and cultural cooperation, an endeavour of particular importance considering the centuries of common history of the two nations. With COVID-19 pandemic in full swing, maintaining and further developing academic collaboration is also a key issue.
The Jagiellonian University’s cooperation with Lithuanian higher education institutions has lasted for many years thanks to bilateral agreements, cooperation networks and the Erasmus+ programme. In particular, the Kraków university has signed agreements with the Vilnius University, Vytautas Magnus University and Vilnius University Library. The collaboration involves student and staff mobility, organisation of joint symposia, conferences and summer schools as well as joint study programmes.
As a member of international cooperation networks, the Jagiellonian University collaborates with many Lithuanian universities within the framework of Coimbra Group, European University Association, Scholars at Risk, Baltic Universities Programme and Utrecht Network.
