JU students among Una Europa Prize winners

JU students among Una Europa Prize winners

The launching of the Una Europa Prize Competition was announced during the first Una Europa Student Congress in February 2021. The contest is aimed at encouraging students to present their vision of a university of the future. The participants were asked to prepare a short video about the vision and values of Una Europa. The winners, including JU students, were presented with prizes at an online ceremony during the general assembly of Una Europa on 6 May 2021.

First place was awarded for the movie "The Symphony of the Future University", the result of collaborative work of students from three academic institutions: the Jagiellonian University, University of Bologna, and University of Helsinki. The Jagiellonian University was represented by Maria Cipińska from the Faculty of Management and Social Communication and Eryk Lased from the Faculty of International and Political Studies.

The jury members stated that "'The Symphony of the Future University' combines Una Europa’s values in a beautiful way, emphasizing different activities of the future university. There is enthusiasm and collaboration, even playfulness in the video." The film focused on the concept of a Pan-European campus bringing together students of different nationalities, fostering bonds between them and forming a common European Academic community.

Second place was taken by the movie “Telos”, authored by a single student of the JU Interfaculty Individual Studies in the Humanities. According to the jury, the work by Arkadiusz Klej “presents a relevant idea to a student-centric experience of the future university, which emphasizes the responsibilities of each of its members." Appreciating the video's "original and value-driven approach", the jury particularly pointed out the "academic thinking and originality" of the submission.

Third place went to the movie "The University of the Future We Want", created by a team from  the University of Bologna, consisting of Davide Coppola, Roberto Perriccioli, and Simona Capecelatro. The video convinced the jury with its emphasis on the social aspects of learning and its "important message for the future very much based on our current situation."

The awards were presented by the Chair of Una Europa Board of Directors Verena Blechinger-Talcott, on behalf of the rectors of the member universities.

The winning videos are available on Una Europa website: www.una-europa.eu/stories/prize-winners.
