The WHO's Stakeholder Consultation Meeting for its Guidance for National Programmes for Age-friendly Cities and Communities in Emergency Contexts is taking place on March 20-21 at the Jagiellonian University, thanks to the collaboration of the JU Center for Evaluation and Public Policies Analysis.
The event will bring together representatives from cities and municipalities affiliated with the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities, as well as experts, stakeholders, and representatives from around the world. The meeting will feature organizations of older people from Poland and individuals and institutions from Ukraine who are engaged in offering aid and support to those in need. Together, the event participants will discuss innovative approach and best practices for handling emergencies through age-friendly lens. The objective of the meeting is to foster exchange of ideas and expertise, and to create a network of individuals and organizations committed to promoting age-friendly communities and cities during emergencies.
During the event, the city of Kraków will be awarded at an official ceremony on March 20, 2023 (Monday) in recognition of its efforts to create age-friendly environments for all, and being officially admitted to the Global Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Programme in March 2023. Dr Anna Okońska-Walkowicz (from the Jagiellonian University), one of Healthy Ageing 50 world leaders recognized by the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing will also be honoured for her contribution to making the world a better place to grow older. It is a great news as Kraków and Wrocław (already belonging to the Programme) are partners in the international project "City&Co: Older Adults Co-Creating a Sustainable Age-friendly City” led in Poland by Jagiellonian University, represented by Dr hab. Jolanta Perek-Białas, Prof. UJ (Institute of Sociology/Center for Evaluation and Public Policies Analysis). This meeting will provide an example of practical collaboration between researchers and policy makers.
