More international research projects at the Jagiellonian University

More international research projects at the Jagiellonian University

Nine projects with a total budget of nine million zlotys will be carried out at the Jagiellonian University by researchers within the framework of the POLONEZ BIS 3 call. Previously, they have been employed at institutions such as Harvard University, University of Tartu and Max Planck Institute of Psycholinguistics.

POLONEZ BIS is a fellowship programme for experienced researchers, co-funded by the European Commission and the Polish National Science Centre under the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND grant. In three calls to be announced in 2021 and 2022, the programme will recruit 120 experienced researchers from all over the world. They will move to Poland for 24 months to conduct their basic research in public or private institutions of their choice. The programme guarantees successful Fellows a full time employment and an additional grant for the implementation of their own projects in a research field of their choice. The research component will be complemented by a series of attractive workshops on transferable skills, and an opportunity to cooperate with start-ups and non-governmental organisations during short-term secondments.

230 proposals were submitted to the recently concluded third call under the POLONEZ BIS Programme. Following the eligibility check and merit-based evaluation performed by international experts and reviewers, 47 projects were recommended for funding. Nine of them will be carried out at the Jagiellonian University:

  • Dr Jakub Szewczyk (Faculty of Philosophy): In search of prediction errors representations
  • Callum Zavos MacRae (Faculty of Philosophy): Equality, Freedom, and Domination
  • Jay Zameska (Faculty of Philosophy): Individual Justification and Uncertainty in Public Health Ethics
  • Dr Yafeng Shan (Faculty of Philosophy): Causation in Biology: Monism or Pluralism?
  • Dr Wojciech Kaftanski (Faculty of Philosophy): The Moral Psychology of Social Comparison: Nature and Normativity
  • Dr Pawel Brzezowski (Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology): Identification and characterization of the mechanisms governing singlet oxygen-induced chloroplast retrograde signaling using model organism Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
  • Dr hab. Aneta Radziwon-Balicka (Jagiellonian Centre for Experimental Therapeutics):    Effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitors on Syk pathway in eNOS-based platelet subpopulations and on endothelial barrier integrity
  • Dr Borys Kuca (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Studies): Ergodic theory meets combinatorial number theory
  • Piyali Chatterjee (Faculty of Chemistry): Development of Scalable Photochargeable Tungsten oxide/Tungstate Hetero-junction Photoanodes with Reversible Electron Storage for Solar Water Splitting Even at Night
