Pirates, corsairs, filibusters, privateers, and Watergeuzen from antiquity to contemporary times

Pirates, corsairs, filibusters, privateers, and Watergeuzen from antiquity to contemporary times

The JU Institute of History is holding an online interdisciplinary conference/seminar/workshop devoted to all aspects of piracy in history, with the exception of intellectual copyright piracy. The organisers welcome papers devoted to: the history of piracy, art devoted to pirates, pirates’ life and conduct, literature and films devoted to piracy.

Paper abstracts, no longer than 300 words, along with a one-page CV should be sent by January 29, 2023 to Jakub Basista, e-mail: jakub.basista@uj.edu.pl. The event is hosted by the Institute of History at the Jagiellonian University and will be held online with the use of MS Teams software. All those whose papers will be accepted will be notified by February 5, 2023.

The language of the event is English. The organisers invite early graduate students, career scholars, and established researchers. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the most recent research in the area of piracy as well as methods and approaches applied to their study today.

One of the aims of the seminar is to publish as many presented papers as possible. Some or all of the papers will be published in an established Polish historical quarterly Studia Historyczne. The periodical, published since 1958, is a peer reviewed journal with articles in both Polish and English, available online at: https://journals.akademicka.pl/studiahistoryczne.
