On 21 December 2022 the traditional Christmas meeting of the academic community took place at the Jagiellonian University. The participants included authorities of the Jagiellonian University and other higher education institutions from Kraków and Małopolska region, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of institutions of art and culture, as well as clergy of various denominations.
This year’s meeting was organised after a three-year-long break caused by the coronavirus pandemic – it was previously held in 2019.
Wishing everybody merry Christmas, the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Jacek Popiel pointed to the symbolic importance and uniqueness of the custom of the breaking of Christmas wafer, strongly rooted in the Polish tradition, which symbolises peace, love and kindness.
Traditionally, a passage from the Bible was read out by the Head of JU Student Government Ms. Katarzyna Jedlińska. The event also featured the singing of traditional Polish Christmas carols with the JU Academic Choir ‘Camerata Jagellonica’.
