Paphos Agora Project online

The website of Paphos Agora Project has recently been reconstructed to meet the standards of the Jagiellonian University website.

In 2011 the Department of Classical Archaeology of the Institute of Archaeology of the Jagiellonian University launched a new archaeological project in the ancient city of Paphos in Cyprus. The director of the expedition is Prof. Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka. Paphos is one of the most important archaeological sites in Cyprus; its monuments are inscribed in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list.

Apart from the local Cypriot excavations, research is conducted here by a number of international missions (e.g. Italian, Australian, American, French, and Polish - of the University of Warsaw and, since 2011, of the Jagiellonian University).

The second season of Paphos Agora Project

The second season of Paphos Agora Project will take place between Aug. 18 and Sept. 28, 2012. We are planning to continue the exploration of the two trenches opened in the 2011 season, in order to explain the meaning and chronology of the uncovered remains. Of particular interest is one of the water cisterns, which seems to date back to the Hellenistic period. The excavations will take six weeks, and ca. 30 persons will take part in them, including the staff, students and volunteers.
