Consul of Germany visits Solaris Synchrotron

On 9 March 2015, the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre Solaris hosted a visit by the Consul General of Germany Dr Werner Köhler and Consul Isolde Felskau, who met with the JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn and Uwe Schneck, the Managing Director of FMB - the German company that provided Solaris with vacuum chambers, which are one of the key elements of the synchrotron.

The guests were received by the Director of Solaris Prof. Marek Stankiewicz, who explained them how the Synchrotron works, and what kind of research will be possible to conduct in the centre. The visit also provided an opportunity to present various aspects of collaboration between Solaris and German partners participating in the construction of the synchrotron.

The meeting included a short tour of the Solaris building, during which the guests could learn how the synchrotron functions. The technical details were discussed by Dr Adrianna Wawrzyniak – the Chief Accelerator Physicist at Solaris.
