International conference on relations between China and Central-Eastern Europe starts at JU

From September 22 and 24, 2015 the 2nd Academic Conference on China-Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) Cross-Cultural Dialogue, Education and Business was held at the Jagiellonian University.

From September 22 and 24, 2015 the 2nd Academic Conference on China-Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) Cross-Cultural Dialogue, Education and Business was held at the Jagiellonian University. The international conference was devoted to the multidimensional relations between the Central-Eastern Europe and China. This is the second conference from the series initiated by the University of Ljubljana in 2013. This year's conference has been organised by the JU Confucius Institute in Kraków and the JU Institute of the Middle and Far East in collaboration with the Confucius Institutes in Ljubljana, Olomouc, Sofia, Bucharest, Budapest, Skopje, and Lancaster. The conference was held under the honorary auspices of the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak and the Dean of the Faculty of Intenational and Political Studies Prof. Bogdan Szlachta. The honorary patrons from outside the university include the People's Republic of China Ambassador to Poland Xu Jian, the Governor of Małopolskie Voivodeship Jerzy Miller, the Marshall of Małopolskie Voivodeship Marek Sowa, and the Mayor of Kraków Prof. Jacek Majchrowski.

The conference started on September 22 in the Assembly Hall of Collegium Novum. The opening addresses was given by the JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak, who stressed the role of intercultural dialogue, both in the history of the Jagiellonian University and in the contemporary world. Speeches were also delivered by Prof. Antoni Dudek, Prof. Metka Tekavcic, Prof. Adam W. Jelonek and Dr Joanna Wardęga. Then the opening lecture about the relations between the Euorpean Union and China was given by Prof. Shen Wei from  Lancaster University.

The conference was aimed to foster interdisciplinary academic discussion and promote knowledge on the changes going on in China and Central-Eastern Europe. The meetings, featuring about 80 speakers from most Central European countries and the leading Chinese academic centres, were completed with Prof. Bogdan Góralczyk's lecture on Chinese models of development.
